Letting Go

Contributed by V.M. Tackett

As the warm summer sun warmed my face, I sat by the lakeside, enjoying the radiance as it shimmered across the water. When two young boys came racing toward the lake. Their destination was a very large rock nestled solidly on the shore.

They both climbed to the very top, and without hesitation, leaped blindly into the water. As splashing gave way to laughter and revelry, I recalled my youth, and how carelessly I leaped into fun and excitement. Throwing caution and peril to the wind.

Why do we replace exuberance and merriment with maturity and mindfulness, should adult life always be so judicious? We were given this desire for exhilaration for a reason; should we allow jeopardy to stop us from living our lives to the fullest? Or shall we let go and enjoy the time we have left?

The Arc of Life

Contributed by Yvonne Moss

Life comes and goes,
It ebbs and flows.
You’re not sure what’s a
‘round the corner.
A vibrant rainbow
or a swift undertow,
‘tis like an endless arc,
‘er changing.

Life’s many colors you find
can be dark, bleak, unkind,
and sometimes down-right
unnerving.
Though as cruel as it be,
in the end you will see
rings of color that trace
destiny.

 Where life starts and ends,
your paint palette lends
its essence to contrive
art ‘n beauty.
Though constant it seems,
lies somewhere between
where it starts, then departs,
out-giving.
