Call for Quilts!
Contributed by Jana Berna
It’s no secret that the Valley is home to a huge population of quilt makers. Practically everyone you meet here has a family member who is obsessed with quilting and has a beloved quilt in their possession. Usually, we only get to describe our quilted treasures; it is rare that we get to share their impact directly with others. Inspired to bring our beautiful quilts out of the dark and into the light, we are organizing a brand-new quilt show for Palmer: The Airing of the Quilts.
On Sunday, June 7th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., we invite the community to bring and display a favorite quilt from their home for everyone to enjoy. This will be an outdoor event; we will be “airing” out the quilts in the June sunshine. Participants will be asked to stay with their quilt so they can talk about it, think of it like a car show but for quilts, and keep it safe. Quilts will be displayed around the Palmer Community Center (Train Depot) and the Downtown Pavilion across from the Palmer Visitor Center.
We can only accept 40 quilts this year, so please register early if you want to display a quilt.
To commemorate the first annual Airing of the Quilts, participants will receive a complimentary quilt block pattern based on this year’s event poster, which features Alaska’s wild rose in a traditional Baltimore Album appliqué style.
Follow our Facebook page for updates or email palmerairingofthequilts@gmail.com. Registration open to all, limited to one person, one quilt. Registration opens online May 1 at 10AM. Registration link will be posted on our Facebook page and via email.
