Word to the Wise
Contributed by Robert Lyons
Old people seem numb and dumb when you are young, but later, after some running, that's when the truth about everything under the sun starts to change what you see as fun.
What you think you feel about yourself when young, adds to naught when compared to nigh, what you learn to know, after the decades roll by.
After receiving years of evidence of what you are, instead of the word of acquaintances, so called friends and other’s opinions.
Self-serving fantasies and glittering dreams of youth fade over years to waking illuminations of life's bigger truths.
You move on with little proof, nearer the end, sending out your own warning to be ignored by crawling babies on morning shores.
Things get clearer, you begin to accept what’s coming like never before, a last smile a wink, some tears on the brink.
Then you swing shut your own door.
