July 4, 2026, marks 250 years for America.
This milestone year gives us an opportunity to reflect on our past and what we want it to be 250 years from now. It’s a chance for all of us to ask, “What is the spirit of America?”
This experiment in democracy has been a proven success. We Americans realize that the formation of a “more perfect union” is an aspiration, not an accomplishment. Perfection is a goal for which we will constantly work. For 250 years, millions of ordinary Americans, some famous names that we know, but most of whom we don’t, have exhibited the toughness and spirit that was spawned from a revolution 250 years ago.
Let’s get together here in Palmer and reflect on how far our country has come and how much is left to accomplish. This is the time to have fun with our friends and neighbors and think of the sacrifices that many made to bring us to this place and time. Let’s forget politics for a wonderful day of joy in our delightful little community of Palmer, Alaska.
Rummage through your clothes and try to come up with something fun to wear, or just put on something red, white or blue. I, for one, am looking forward to meeting more of my neighbors and reuniting with old friends. Bring your children and grandchildren to teach them some of our rich history, so they learn to appreciate this day and how much was sacrificed to create this great country. We scheduled our event at 3 p.m. so everyone who wants can go to the parade in Wasilla and then come here to round out the day. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy a day of greeting old friends and making new ones.
Hopefully the weather will see fit to cooperate.
May God bless America with a happy 250th birthday. We are all blessed to live in this nation and especially here in Palmer, Alaska. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 250th event right here in Palmer.
