Trinity Lutheran Church Ministry Hosts A Public Meeting To Address Housing Concerns In The Mat-Su

PRESS RELEASE

Trinity Lutheran Church’s Local Organizing Ministry hosted a public meeting on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm to discuss housing concerns, particularly concerns with the waitlist for housing vouchers in the Mat-Su Borough.

Representatives from Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC), Cathy Stone and John Sperbeck, attended to hear community concerns and respond to questions. The meeting was held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10355 E Palmer-Wasilla Hwy, Palmer, AK 99645.

During the past six months, Trinity Lutheran Church’s Local Organizing Ministry has met with community members and non-profit officials and learned of a growing concern regarding affordable housing in the Mat-Su. The population in the Mat-Su has grown nearly 76 percent since the 2000 census, resulting in an increasingly long waitlist for residents seeking housing vouchers. This meeting included a research report, public testimony and a discussion on alternatives to the current system of issuing housing vouchers.

Trinity Lutheran’s Local Organizing Ministry is a member of Valley Interfaith Action, a faith-based community organization founded in 2015 to organize, empower and mobilize faith communities to address quality of life issues affecting their community.
