It takes a searching set of eyes
an awareness of peripheral dangers
and a willingness to crouch down
or get on your knees for perspective
ultimately a gentle touch
to get some of what you want here
a taste of fleeting sweetness.
It takes a knowing mindfulness
that thorns will afflict your flesh
and sweat will blur your vision
trying to distract your attention
from the miracle of it all.
Remember to be here now
in sun or shade or sudden storm.
