Statement By The MSBSD School Board

PRESS RELEASE

The School Board is committed to the success of all students in the Mat-Su Borough School District and moving the mission forward through the hard work and dedication of every employee. Partners with Mat-Su parents and all community stakeholders, we know that public education is a cornerstone of American communities and an important part of the communities in which we live.

On March 27th, Superintendent Gene Stone tendered his resignation for personal reasons effective April 3, 2017, and the Board has accepted the resignation. The School Board asks everyone to honor Mr. Stone and his family’s privacy.

The School Board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Monica Goyette as Immediate Interim Superintendent. Dr. Goyette has served in the District for 18 years as a counselor, teacher and school administrator. For the past four years, she has been at the district office as Executive Director of Instruction. In August of 2016, Dr. Goyette was hired as Assistant Superintendent of Instruction.

The School Board is confident that the work and dedication to student learning and engagement remains high. Dedicated to the mission, we prepare all students for success, programs and learning options will move forward at an appropriate pace.
