Alaska State Fair Inc. is currently seeking candidates interested in serving on the Board of Directors. The candidate application deadline is Thursday, December 15 at 4:30 p.m.
The seven-member Board of Directors is responsible for setting policy for Alaska State Fair, Inc., a private non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation. Current directors include Carol Kenley, President, Stephen Brown, Vice President, Kristy Bernier, Secretary, Danny Consenstein, Treasurer, John Tracy, Director, Richard Stryken, Director, and John Harkey, Director.
Current 2016 annual and lifetime (having joined before Dec 15, 2016) fair members will vote to fill three open board seats at the fair annual meeting, scheduled for Thursday February 9, 2017. The seats, which each have a three-year term, are currently held by Kristi Bernier and Danny Consenstein. President Carol Kenley has been in office for three terms and will not be running again.
Directors’ responsibilities are to set policies to accomplish the fair’s mission statement: Produce a traditional state fair which educates and entertains fairgoers, provide stable finances through good business practices, statewide outreach, partnerships and hosting a variety of community, cultural and business events.
The election committee is seeking individuals who can envision the fair as a gathering place for all Alaskans by encompassing the past, present and future, and individuals who can make the full commitment of time and self-discipline it takes to set policy.
Interested candidates can learn more about the directors’ roles, duties and responsibilities by reviewing the Alaska State Fair Inc. Articles of Incorporation and ByLaws and Board Policy Manual, which are available at alaskastatefair.org.
To be eligible, candidates must be Alaska residents, at least 18 years old, and be members of Alaska State Fair Inc., either as a lifetime member or an annual member in the current year. The deadline to become a 2016 member is Thursday, December 15th at 4:30 p.m.
Interested candidates should obtain an application packet, available at alaskastatefair.org or at the Fair Main Office, located at 2075 Glenn Highway in Palmer. Candidates will need to review enclosed information, complete and return required forms in the application packet, which includes:
