A Celebration of Valley Quilts

A Celebration of Valley Quilts

Contributed by Jana Berna and Susan Franznick

This year our community will premiere its very own Airing of the Quilts in beautiful downtown Palmer! An array of quilts, large and small, will be on display in the Train Depot and the outdoor Pavilion area for the public to see, free of charge.

“The Library” Quilt made by Susan Franznick with Jillian Lin

Some of the quilts you may have seen before, including two from the 2025 Alaska State Fair: The Library, a huge bookcase filled with books and trinkets and lots of hidden surprises for a fun “I Spy” game, and NASA, an interactive quilt featuring sensors that, when electronically scanned, take the viewer to various space-related websites. Others will be newly displayed, made recently or long ago, and represent a wide variety of quilt styles and techniques. Many of the quilt makers will be on hand with their quilts, happy to answer your questions. There will also be a handful of quilters demonstrating various techniques by hand and by machine in the Train Depot.

If you want to bring your quilt to the show, please register to participate. Registration is free and open to anyone who has a quilt they would like to share with the community; however, space is limited, so sign up early. Find the registration link on our Facebook page, “Palmer’s Airing of the Quilts”, or email us at PalmersAiringoftheQuilts@gmail.com.

Thank you to the Valley Quilters Guild for their collaboration on this event.

We hope you will join us on Sunday, June 7, 11 AM to 2 PM, in the Palmer Train Depot and Palmer Outdoor Pavilion for the first-ever Airing of the Quilts, a family-friendly, free community activity celebrating Palmer and quilts!
