A thousand souls over the atoll,
100 miles square, Hell measured cell
Delving into the blue bombardment
Bloody shelf, beach escarpment
Always faithful the sentiment
Floating along the battlement
Enemy extravagant, blade or shell
Fearing the battle yells
Captured ground for freedom specific
Remember Tarawa!
Our American lives littered the Pacific.
